Kate Nolan |
Kate is a natural history illustrator who has been teaching and illustrating botanical art since the 1990’s when she took a position as a scientific illustrator at the Museum of Victoria. In the late ‘90’s Kate moved into freelance Illustration, mostly creating images for publishers such as Lonely Planet, Melbourne University Press and other private and government organisations. Kate has exhibited in almost every Melbourne and Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens Botanical Art Exhibition since 1990 and has exhibited regularly at other galleries such as the Nellie Castan in South Yarra, Woodbine in Malmsbury and EGAG in Bairnsdale. Kate has taught Masterclasses on Botanical Illustration regularly at these and educational institutions and interest groups. She has Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Diploma in Visual Art (Natural History Illustration) from the University of Newcastle, NSW, and a Diploma of Education from Melbourne University. Kate’s inspiration has always been to express a feeling of connection with the natural world, which she feels is of great importance to our environmental and individual wellbeing. She creates art which nurtures, celebrates and promotes this connection by depicting and visually exploring the natural world. Her work retains scientific accuracy but celebrates the aesthetic-exploring the tension between science and art. |
