Joanna Thomas |
Joanna Thomas is a Contemporary Botanical Artist residing in Berry, New South Wales, Australia. While her roots trace back to Brisbane, where she devoted nearly two decades to educating in Visual Art, Science, and Horticulture, her artistic journey has led to a profound love for plants and their captivating allure. Her childhood memories are adorned with the splendour of gardens and the lushness of flourishing flora that surrounded her. However, it was when she acquired her first home that Joanna’s passion for plants truly blossomed. Fuelling this newfound ardor, she pursued and obtained a Diploma of Horticulture, immersing herself in the knowledge and practice of cultivating nature's wonders. Alongside horticulture, she also dabbled in the realm of garden design, seeking to craft harmonious landscapes that celebrated the artistry of nature. As life gracefully wove the tapestry of her own family, she embarked on the delicate balancing act of nurturing a home and fostering her artistic endeavours. Drawing has always held a special place in Joanna’s heart since her earliest days, and the opportunity to intertwine the ardor for sketching with her love for plants felt like an exquisite symphony of purpose. Joanna is an active participant in the Bowral Botanical Group and a proud member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia (BASA). She was pleasantly surprised to be awarded a highly commended at the 2022 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show for her Bearded Iris graphite drawing. She was also recently gifted a grant by the Shoalhaven Arts Board, to help her develop her skills to include colour pencil, as a medium in the future. |
