  • NatureArt Lab Studio, M16, 21 Blaxland Street, Griffith ACT

This workshop will introduce students to the world of Boronias, the most well-known of which is the highly fragrant Boronia megastigma or Brown Boronia.  There are many more, the colours and fragrance of which vary greatly.

The workshop will begin with an introduction to these beautiful and fascinating plants by Justin Roberts, an expert on Boronias and allied genera, explaining the main characteristics and features.

After Justin’s introduction, we will explore some of the shapes and forms of Boronias and how to best render them on paper. Students will examine various methods to create highlights, depth and texture to capture the interesting and intricate structures of these plants. After selecting their specimens, the class will focus on how to translate that specimen onto paper. Discussion will centre around composition, form and understanding the basic structure of the plants.

Day two will be devoted to adding layers and details to give more form and depth to students’ paintings.
