The Fungi exhibition which Botanica artists who exhibited in 2018 and 2019 were all invited to register for has been postponed and will take place in autumn 2021. As the Fungi exhibition was always going to have a large component of botanical artwork, we have decided to merge the two exhibitions.
Therefore, the theme of Botanica 2021 will be fungi and the new dates are: Friday 16 April – Tuesday 11 May 2021
The exhibition will include botanical artworks amongst other kinds of art, including sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics and painting. The Botanica artists will be selected as per our usual guidelines, whereas the non-Botanica artists will be selected under a different criteria.
The standard for the botanical artwork will continue to remain very high and that the non-Botanica artists will be exhibiting very different work. This range of work is a compromise in an unfortunate and unprecedented time.
We will be working hard to promote this exhibition next year and expect to attract a new audience for your work as well. Some of the work that was planned for the July Fungi exhibition included large, colourful fungi sculptures for outside Lion Gate Lodge, a series of ceramic fungi bells for outside, contemporary photography of fungi from our own Gardens, and a range of small sculptures for inside Lion Gate Lodge.
The exhibition committee includes previous Botanica curators and dedicated members who will be working on the exhibition to ensure its success.
